Games are in a shipping container headed to the US!

Hi everyone, check out this email I got from my manufacturer:
"I'm thrilled to announce that all the shipments have left the factory and are making their way to the port.
"The New York ocean shipment is set to sail via EVER LASTING/0886-027E May 1, with arrival in port estimated May 29, and from there 5 days to the final destination."
It looks like the games will be shipping to you in the first week of June! We have a team ready to pack and ship these as soon as we receive them!
We just got this great news while we were guests at Planet Comic Con in Kansas City. I actually met up with roughly half the cartoonists that are doing guest cards for Pretending to Grownup. We posed for this epic picture:
Which cartoonist belongs to which comic?? Speculate in the comments!
Here's a funny story: I was sitting next to Shen (of Owlturd fame) and none other than WIL WHEATON walks up to the booth and starts geeking out on how much of an Owlturd fan he is. I give him one of my precious few Pretending to Grownup production samples and mention something about his show Tabletop... then Shen kind of realizes who it is. It was awesome :)
Mr Wheaton was also nice enough to pose for pictures:
He was obviously super pumped to meet me!
Also Megan had her solo Unipegasaurs plushie prototype at the show (the only one that exists) and was very protective of it! Kickstarter coming in July after the Pretending to Grownup games are shipped!
It's portable!
So we're also getting close to locking down the Backerkit surveys. IF YOU HAVEN'T FILLED OUT YOUR SURVEY, PLEASE DO! You need to do this to get your rewards.
If you want to find your survey, search your email for the word "Backerkit" and it should come right up. If you still have trouble, please message me through Kickstarter messaging (not through the comments) and I can send you a link.
Also if anyone else has any questions about their order, please message me. I'm way more on top of the messages than I am the comments.
I am so excited to get these games out to everyone. I think you're in for some good times!
Cheers,
Jason
Coming soon to your grownup mailbox!
April Update + Production Samples + Conventions + Survey Reminder + Insults / Compliments
almost 9 years ago

Hello Grownups!
Production Samples
I got some production samples in the mail and HOLY POTATOES they look awesome!
They stack really nicely
Back of the box has all the information you crave
The cards feel amazing, the higher quality thickness and linen finish just make me think of the business card scene from American Psycho
Conventions
Also Megan and I will be around at many upcoming conventions this year!
Myself (writer / designer Jason Anarchy) will be traveling the world to go to these cool shows:
Planet Comic Con - Kansas City, USA April 28-30
Ottawa Comic Con - Ottawa, Canada May 12-14
Anime North - Toronto, Canada May 26-28
Awesome Con - Washington DC, USA June 16-18
Gencon - Indianapolis, USA Aug 17-20
Either Fan Expo (Toronto) or Pax West (Seattle) They're on the same weekend I have a tough choice to make Aug 31-Sept 3
Edmonton Comic Con - Edmonton, Canada Sept 22-24
Armageddon - Aukland, New Zealand Oct 20-23
Pax Aus - Melbourne, Australia Oct 27-29
Pax Unplugged - Philadelphia, USA Nov 17-19
Megan McKay (Cartoonist, Illustrator) will be going to these cons and she put together this nice graphic which I screen capped from her Twitter:
So if you're going to these cons, we would love to talk to you and can sign things if you'd like!
Compliment / Insult Cards
Writing these has just been insane. I finished 2500 myself and Megan is roughly halfway through her 2500. My insults range from mild ribbing to pure evil. My hand writing is awful and makes them seem much more bitter than they are.
Megan's compliments so far are just absolutely delightful. Really positive uplifting stuff!
It's a lot of time to put these together because of the sheer quantity of these cards but they're fun to do and it's the kind of bonus I'd like to receive if I backed a Kickstarter so I think everyone will get a laugh out of them :)
Other Random Points
The games are still printing on schedule and I should have more specific dates next update. The behind the scenes work to get these printed is pretty bonkers but I am top of it.
I'd also like to get out the single advance review copy I have available to either Shut Up and Sit Down, Geek & Sundry or Dice Tower. If you're into those sites, I would appreciate if you'd let them know that you'd like to see Pretending reviewed there.
Also just a quick reminder, if you haven't filled out your shipping survey or if you need to change your address, please log into BACKERKIT and update it there.
That's all for now!

Printing Update - Production Sample - Publisher - Pax- Plushie
about 9 years ago

Hi Grownups!
Just a quick update that the printing process is moving along. Should have the games mid-May as planned. Just in case you didn't read the last update, everyone is getting a UNIPEGASAURUS meeple (little wooden token) with their game but it will take a while longer to get the games (May / June instead of April).
I literally have one prototype game that I got in the mail and I can report that it looks and feels really awesome!
The box is really sturdy and feels quite substantial
There's a divider which holds two decks of cards with room for the rules and unipegasaurus meeple
The cards are super high quality and have a linen finish, they feel great!
Also I wanted to announce that I've teamed up with GOLDEN BELL STUDIOS to help publish this game! They'll be sending out the Kickstarter orders from a warehouse in California rather than my Canadian basement. On a personal level, this allows me to focus on making more funny games and less time on the businessy stuff! So far the team is really fiery and hard working, they believe in this stuff!
This fancy logo will be on the box!
And of course, I had to get my publisher logo on the box too!
Megan and I did Pax South in January and it was a huge success! Everyone seemed really into the prototype copy. I'll be at Pax East this weekend (No Megan) and would be happy to chat with any of you there!
On the left: Person writing compliments On the right: Person writing insults
Oh hey and once this Kickstarter is fulfilled, Megan will be running a Kickstarter of her own. If you're one of the backers who was interested in the idea of a UNIPEGASAURUS PLUSHIE, here is a teaser video.
More info as I have it! Thanks for your patience everyone, I hope you're excited as we are!

Surveys Coming Today - 6 Extra Bonus Cards, Now 32 Total - Technical Update
about 9 years ago
– Mon, Jan 16, 2017 at 11:36:25 PM
Hi everyone,
Hope the new year is treating you well!
The shipping surveys are coming shortly after this update. They will be through BACKERKIT. If you haven't heard of it, it's a service that helps Kickstarters organize their backers and allows for optional upsells.
A few of the optional upsell items are:
- Fridge Magnet Set (Grownup Situations)
- Sticker Set (Unipegasaurus)
- Extra physical games
- Digital games
- An extra Unipegasaurus Meeple
Add-ons are totally optional but please make sure you fill out your shipping survey. You will need to fill out the shipping survey to have your reward mailed out. Things look to be shipping in May so if you move before then you can also update your address.
As a reminder, the schedule was pushed back a bit from April to add the UNIPEGASAURUS MEEPLE and also (I'm announcing this now for the first time) 6 more bonus cards! So now there will be 32 guest cards drawn by cartoonists of some of the internet's best webcomics! The added comic guests are:
So everyone gets a custom meeple and 6 extra cards! 32 Guest Cards in total! Once April rolls around, please let the people who don't read the updates know about this if it comes up in the comments.
Meeple Mockup
For the hardcore tabletop gaming crowd out there. I have some technical information about the game that you might find interesting:
- Cards will be standard 3.5" x 2.5" Poker sized cards so standard sleeves will work
- Cards are printed on 310 GSM Ivorycore card stock (very nice quality!)
- The plan for the box was to have a fancy gloss, the manufacturer is telling me that he thinks their matte finish will look much better... waiting on samples then I'll decide which one works the best.
- The cards will also have a linen finish (which wasn't announced as a feature so that's another nice bonus!) Basically they'll have a bit of a gritty texture. If anyone has played Joking Hazard, they will feel like those cards.
So the manufacturer has the finished files and a prototype is being mailed out to me. Once I approve that, the printing process can begin!
I'll update again in about a month and intend to focus on gameplay quirks!
Cheers and thank you,
Jason

You are PRO MEEPLE!
87% responded positively to the extra component but adding some print time
13% said they'd rather have it sooner with no extra component
Since it's such a wide majority, I'll be adding the uniepegasaurus meeple!
I had a few questions as to what a meeple was: It's basically a little wooden person that's come to be widely associated with modern gaming. They tend to be fun pieces to have!
So I'm going to work on finalizing this last piece of the game and get the whole thing to the printer. Thanks for being accommodating when a good idea presented itself at the last moment!
I'll update again after the new year with a more info heavy update!
